Pasadena Window (I)

Will it be that
We are forever losing ourselves?
Ever since we opened eyes
Onto the daylight
We are blinded by brightness—
Our souls slip between the cars
And hedgerows
So we leave one eye’s corner
Open as we walk
For a familiar face
Mirrored in a storefront
For a shape in the gutter
